Frimpong Equals School Scoring Record in Tie
Oct. 8, 2004
TEMPE, Ariz. - Senior forward Tina Frimpong (Vancouver, Wash./Hudson's Bay) tied the school career scoring record with two goals Friday, including a 73rd-minute strike that secured a 3-3 tie for fourth-ranked Washington at Arizona State in the Pac-10 women's soccer opener for both teams at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
Arizona State (4-6-1) led on three different occasions, but the Huskies (9-1-1) rallied to even the score each time. Frimpong netted the game's final goal at 72:38. She collected the ball behind the defense and chipped a five-yard shot over ASU goalkeeper Kim Bingham.
Frimpong scored UW's first goal in the 21st minute off an assist from senior Nikki Gamble (Oak Harbor, Wash./Oak Harbor) who had the Huskies' second tally with just over one minute left in the first half. Frimpong leads the team with seven goals this season, a figure that pushed her career total to 34. She is tied for the all-time Washington scoring lead with current assistant coach Tami Bennett who amassed 34 goals between 1997-2000.
Bingham registered eight saves for the Sun Devils who outshot Washington by a slim 18-15 margin. Sophomore Kelsey Rasmussen (Gig Harbor, Wash./Bellarmine Prep) had two saves for the Huskies.
The Huskies conclude their nine-game road trip Sunday at Arizona. UW returns home to host USC on Friday, Oct. 15. That marks the first game at Husky Soccer Field since Sept. 3, a span of 41 days between home dates for the Huskies.
