Bruno Barbic Posts Two Top-30 Swims At World Championships

INDIANAPOLIS-- Washington swimmer Bruno Barbic completed competition at the 2004 World Swimming Championships with two top-30 finishes. The Husky freshmen placed 22nd in the 100 freestyle and 26th in the 50 freestyle.

Barbic opened competition on Thursday in the 50 freestyle. His time of 22.86 placed him 26th out of an 80 swimmer field. Argentia's Jose Meolans won the event in a time of 21.82.

Barbic also swam in the 100 freestyle on Sunday, placing 22nd out of a 68 swimmer field with a time of 50.20. Jason Lezak of the United State won the event in a time of 48.39.

Barbic currently holds the fastest times of the season for Washington in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

UW participates in the Purple and Gold Classic intrasquad meet this weekend. Saturday's meet is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at Husky Pool.
