Stanford Story: The Cardinal opened Pac-10 play last Sunday against California in Berkeley ... the Bay Area rivals battled to a 1-1 tie, after Cal's goalie scored the Golden Bear's only goal with 2:30 to go in regulation on a corner kick ... Stanford has started the year with 8-2-2, 0-0-1 in Pac-10 play ... senior co-captain Marcie Ward leads the team with 13 points on six goals and one assist, while junior Leah Tapscott trails with 10 points on four goals and two assists ... senior co-captain Nicole Barnhart was called up to the U.S. National Team this week and will travel to Kansas City, Mo., where the U.S. will take on Mexico on Saturday ... she will continue to play for the Cardinal in addition to her duties with the U.S. team ... collegiality, she is ranked No. 9 in the nation with a 0.417 goals-against average, after giving up only five goals in the first 12 games.
Cardinal vs. Wildcats: Stanford is 9-0 over Arizona ... two of the contests have resulted in one-goal games, including last year's match ... the Cardinal defeated Arizona 3-2 in Tucson last October.
Arizona Analysis: Arizona is having the best season in school history, as the Wildcats have started the year with an 11-2-0 mark and a 2-0-0 start in the Pac-10 ... last week, Arizona upset No. 4 Washington, 3-1 in Tucson ... the Wildcats have already set new school records, as they had never won more than eight games in a season (they went 8-11-1 in 1997) and have never won more than two conference games in a year ... four players have reached the double-digit mark in points, with junior Mallory Miller leading the way with 18 points on five goals and eight assists ... senior Kamaya Damwijk, a walk-on in her first year with the varsity team, has scored 14 points on six goals and two assists.

Tapscott Trivia: Junior midfielder Leah Tapscott was named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 4 after helping the Cardinal to a 0-0 tie at Santa Clara and a 2-1 victory over Saint Mary's ... Tapscott scored the game-winner against the Gaels ... the weekly conference honor is the first in her career and the first of the season for Stanford.
Barnhart Bullets: Senior goalie Nicole Barnhart has been called up to the U.S. National Team and will compete with both squads during the season ... she has been named to the Soccer America and College Sports Television (CSTV) Preseason All-America teams, as well as the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List ... the two-time All-American is co-captain of the Cardinal for the second-straight season ... she is one shutout away from moving up to No. 2 in the school record books for career shutouts ... with five blankings to her credit this season, Barnhart has recorded 34 in her career.
Rankings Report: With seven wins in the last nine games, the Cardinal moved up one spot to No. 15 in the NSCAA/adidas poll ... with a 1-1 tie at Cal last week,, the Cardinal is ranked No. 14 in Soccer Times, No. 10 in Soccer America and No. 8 in Soccer Buzz.
