Huskies Open Practice Saturday

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Washington women's basketball team begins its preparation for the 2004-2005 season this weekend as the Huskies open official practice starting Saturday, Oct. 16.
Washington will hold its first two practices at Skagit Valley Community College in Mt. Vernon, Wash. Saturday's practice will take place from 1-4 p.m., while practice on Sunday, Oct. 17, will run from 9 am. -noon. Both sessions will be open to the public.
The Huskies will return to Seattle on Monday, Oct. 18, for their first practice on their home floor at Bank of America Arena, starting at 1 p.m.
Washington returns seven letterwinners and two starters from last year's squad that finished with an overall record of 18-13 and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. UW finished tied for sixth in the Pac-10 race with a conference mark of 9-9. Also highlighting the Huskies' roster this season will be three returning redshirts including junior guard Kayla Burt, junior guard Kristen O'Neill and sophomore guard Erica Schelly. Sophomore guard Cameo Hicks, and sophomore forwards Jill Bell and Breanne Watson look to build upon strong rookie campaigns from one year ago.
Added to the mix will be five freshmen, led by guard Dominque Banks from Stockton, Calif. UW's additional freshmen include guard Stefanie Clark from Lakeview Terrace, Calif., guard Emily Florence from Boise Idaho, guard Jackie Hollands from Oregon City, Ore., and forward Andrea Plouffe from Edmonton, Alberta.
The Huskies will tune-up with a pair of exhibition games, hosting the Northwest All-Stars, Sun., Oct. 31, at 2 p.m., and Vanguard University on Mon., Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. Washington will open the season hosting the WBCA BTI Classic, Nov. 14-15, at Bank of America Arena. UW will face South Carolina and 2004 NCAA Final Four team Minnesota in the tournament.
