No. 12 Cardinal Volleyball Sweeps Oregon 3-0

Stanford, Calif. - Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Richards tallied 17 kills and 14 digs to lead the 12th ranked Stanford women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Oregon tonight in Burnham Pavilion. Game scores were 30-25, 30-17, 30-22. The Cardinal improve to 14-4 on the year, 6-1 in the Pac-10 while the Ducks fall to 9-8 overall, 1-6 in league play.
Oregon staked an early 7-4 lead in game one but the Cardinal would tie up the game at 7-all on a block by Jennifer Wilson and Jennifer Hucke. The Ducks had a 15-13 lead heading into the media timeout. Stanford went on a 6-1 run out of the timeout to go up 19-16. A service ace by Kristin Richards gave Stanford a 24-18 advantage as Oregon took their final timeout. The Ducks fought back to pull within two at 23-25 when the Cardinal called a timeout. Stanford reached game point at 29-25 on a Duck hitting error and won 30-25 on another Oregon attack that went long.
Stanford went up 7-3 early in game two on a cross-court kill by Hucke and posted a 9-3 lead as Oregon called their first timeout. The Cardinal had a 16-11 advantage after a Kristin Richards kill. A block by Njideka Nnamani and Wilson put Stanford up 21-13. The Ducks took their final timeout trailing 15-24. A kill by Richards gave the Cardinal game point at 29-17 and a kill by Hucke closed out the game, 30-17.
The Ducks came out strong in game three, taking the early 9-6 lead but Stanford would rebound to hold a slim 15-14 advantage at the media timeout after a ball-handling error by Oregon. The Cardinal led 20-17 after a kill by Franci Girard. The Ducks trailed 18-23 as they took their final timeout, trying to stop a three-point run by Stanford. Richards' notched another kill to put the Cardinal at match point, leading 29-20. Oregon held off two match points before Richards closed out the match with a kill at 29-22.
Oregon was led by Jaclyn Jones' 17 kills and Katie O'Neil's 12 digs.
The Cardinal is back in action next week against the Washington schools.
