Women's Soccer Loses To No. 7 Washington 3-2
Oct. 22, 2004
Oregon State lost to No. 7 Washington 3-2 in double overtime Friday afternoon in Corvallis. The loss brings OSU to 7-8-0 on the year and 1-3 in conference, while raising the Huskies to 11-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Pac-10.
'We played a very good game today,' OSU head coach Steve Fennah said. 'Obviously we are very disappointed we didn't come away with more from the game. We played in the way we wanted to play, we knew Washington would be playing well, and we were going to have to absorb pressure, and we did that well'.
Washington came back in the 22nd minute of the game when Kim Taylor passed to Cassie Giles, whose shot within the goal box went high past OSU goalkeeper Melissa Onstad's reach.
In the 68th minute of the second half, Jodie Taylor came back again scoring for the Beavers. Taylor took the ball from halfway down the field, dribbling past the goalie, and shooting from the left side of the field from 10 yards out.
The Huskies' Kim Taylor shot from 10 yards out for Washington, tying up the game in the 87th minute.
No goals were scored during single overtime, however Washington's Nikki Gamble was able to score off an assist from Tina Frimpong in the fourth minute of second overtime, giving the Huskies the win.
'We had a lot of shots today' Fennah said. 'I give credit to the way we defended'.
Jodie Taylor's two goals brings her to 13 goals, 50 shots, and 28 points on the year. Taylor is ranked first in the Pac-10 going into this week for goals (11) , third for shots (47), tied for second in game-winning shots (4), and second in points (24). Taylor is on track to break Val Williams' OSU single-season scoring record of 47 points, with 28 points from 13 goals and two assists.
OSU will be taking on WSU at Lorenz Field at Valley Stadium, this Sunday at noon.
