Day Two Results from the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships

BERKELEY - After a lengthy rain delay, action resumed at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships, with the California men continuing a successful run though the tournament. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 4-7 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at the University of Michigan.
In Round of 32 singles action, No. 1 seed Conor Niland advanced with a win over Hawaii's Bryan Weinberg, 6-3; 6-3. Freshman Ken Nakahara continued his impressive run in the tournament, defeating Adam Hooste of Nevada, 6-4; 6-2. Fifth seeded Lennart Maack beat USF's Philip Riise-Hansen in straight sets, 6-3; 6-2. Sophomore Daniel Sebescen upset sixth seed Greg Shearer of Fresno State, 6-1; 6-2. Dean Wallace fell to UOP's Arnar Sigudsson, 6-4; 6-2. Oregon's No. 4 seed Manuel Kost got by senior Patrick Briaud, 6-3; 6-3. Tyler Browne lost to Stanford's Phil Sheng, 6-2; 6-2.
Cal was dominant in doubles as well, as the second seeded duo of Niland and Briaud outplayed Andy Koharszky and Mike Ricks of Washington, 8-6. Fourth seeded Brown and Sebescen defeated Santa Clara's Eric Kochanski and Francisco Zepponi, 8-6. Wallace and Mack gave a strong showing, beating UOP's Surgurdsson and Niclas Otte, 8-2. Nakahara and sophomore John Pettit lost in a very close match to Tyler Black and Vladamir Zdravkovic of UOP, 8-6.
In addition to host California, this event will feature the top players from Division I schools from: Sacramento State, University of Nevada, University of Portland, UC Davis, Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Gonzaga, University of San Francisco, University of the Pacific, Cal Poly, Fresno State, St. Mary's, Santa Clara and University of Hawaii.
Action continues tomorrow at Berkeley's Hellman Tennis Center and Channing Courts, all day.
