Oct. 25, 2004
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA libero Chrissie Zartman has been named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 11-17, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Zartman, a senior from Hermosa Beach, Calif., helped UCLA sweep Oregon and Oregon State on the road, collecting 49 digs along the way. In the victory at Oregon, she posted a 24-dig performance, tallying eight digs in each game of the match. Against Oregon State, with UCLA's starting setter (and second-best digger based on per-game-average), Krystal McFarland, sitting out due to injury, Zartman led the Bruins with 25 digs. She had 13 digs in game one alone, and four digs in the fifth game as UCLA earned its first game five victory of the season.
With the performance against the Beavers, Zartman became the Pac-10's all-time digs leader with 1,708 for her career, passing USC's Katie Haller (1,702 digs). Against the Ducks and Beavers, Zartman averaged 6.12 digs per game, nearly a full dig per game above her season average entering the weekend (5.32 dpg).
UCLA hosts Pepperdine on Tuesday before squaring off against Pac-10 rivals Arizona State and Arizona.
This is the first weekly honor for Zartman, UCLA's 46th Player of the Week honor all-time.
UCLA plays host to Pepperdine on Tuesday at 7 pm before hosting Arizona State and Arizona on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both of those matches are also scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
