Oct. 25, 2004
Berkeley Calif. - The top seeded tandem of junior KC Corkery and senior Sam Warburg defeated two doubles teams from Cal on Monday to capture the Wilson/ITA Regional doubles title in Berkeley. By winning the tournament title, Corkery and Warburg secured a spot at the 2004 ITA National Indoor Championship, scheduled for November 4-7 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Corkery and Warburg advanced to the final with an 8-4 win over Cal's tandem of Tyler Browne and Daniel Sebescen on Monday afternoon. In the championship final, the duo rolled to an 8-2 victory over Cal's Patrick Briaud and Connor Niland to claim the tournament crown. The Cal pairing had advanced to the final after defeating Oregon's Thomas Bieri and Markus Shiller in the semifinals.
In singles play, the No. 3 seeded Corkery had his run cut short in the quarterfinals of the main draw, falling to Cal's Lennart Maack, 6-1, 6-0.
Warburg and Corkery will compete as a doubles tandem at the ITA National Indoor Championships, while Warburg captured a spot in the singles tournament by advancing to the final at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships earlier this month.
