WSU Cross Country Races Top-Ranked Teams at Pac-10 Championships

THIS WEEK: Washington State travels to San Francisco, Calif., to compete in the Pac-10 Cross Country Championships hosted by California...the races will take place in Golden Gate Park with the women's 6,000m race at 9:30 a.m. and the men's 8,000m race to follow at 10:30 a.m.
THE PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS: WSU will face top-ranked teams Stanford (No. 2), Arizona State (No. 9) and Oregon (No. 28) in the men's race...the Cougar women face No. 1 Stanford along with Arizona State (No. 8) and UCLA (No. 26)...teams will be allowed to use 10 runners with five scoring and two used for team scoring displacement...the start and finish of the race will be in Speedway Meadows of Golden State Park...the course terrain is a mixture of grass, packed dirt trail with some sand and moderate hills.
WSU MEN: Seniors Danny Wolf and Mike Heidt lead the Washington State men...Wolf and Heidt continue to be WSU's top finishers and led the Cougars to a 20th place finish at the Terre Haute Pre-Nationals...sophomores Alex Grant, Andrew Jones and Matt Knoff, along with redshirt sophomore Ryan Freimuth and redshirt freshmen Geoff Casazza, Daniel Frederick and Chris Concha round out the men's squad...Grant and Jones get their second start at a Pac-10 Championship race while Casazza, Frederick and Concha will experience the competition for the first time.
WSU WOMEN: The Cougar women are led by seniors Ana Cabrera and Molly Bull...a strong contingent of sophomores join the upperclassmen including Natalie Smith, Karen DeMartini, Kayle Peterson, Kelly Ramirez and Katie Troy...freshmen Haley Paul, Isley Gonzalez and Collier Lawerence fill out the competitive squad...Paul was the women's top finisher at both the Roy Griak Inviatational and Pre-Nationals meet and looks to pace the Cougar women in her first Pac-10 Championships appearance.
LAST YEAR AT PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS: WSU hosted last year's competition where the Cougar men placed sixth and the women finished eighth...Wolf paced the men with a 16th place finish while Mike Heidt crossed the finish line in 32nd place...other Cougar finishers include Andrew Jones (33rd), Alex Grant (51st), Matt Knoff (53rd) and Ryan Freimuth (64th)...Ana Cabrera finished 25th in the women's race followed by Kayle Peterson's 48th place finish...also competing for WSU were Natalie Smith (52nd), Katie Troy (53rd),and Molly Bull (54th).
NEXT COMPETITION: The Cougars travel to Fresno, Calif., for the NCAA West Region Championships Saturday, Nov. 13.
