BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 13 California held a 17-6 shot advantage but tied Oregon State, 0-0, in double overtime Friday afternoon at Edwards Stadium. After their third straight overtime contest, the Golden Bears are now 9-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Pac-10, while the Beavers are 8-8-1 and 2-3-1 in conference play.

'I thought Oregon State battled well,' said Cal head coach Kevin Boyd. 'We just need to come out on Fridays and have a little more life to us. We played well in the overtime. I felt that's when our game showed up. It was too late. We need to create more early on.'

Bear forwards Liz Eisenberg and Katie Ratican had quality chances in the final two minutes of the second overtime period, but the Beavers' goalkeeper, Melissa Onstad, came up with her eighth and ninth saves of the game.

Neither team posted a shot for the first 20 minutes, but Cal closed out the first half with an 8-3 shot edge and controlled both overtime periods. The Bears held a 5-0 edge in both shots and corner kicks in the extra minutes. Overall, Cal was awarded 10 corner kicks to Oregon State's one.

Cal had several other dangerous scoring chances in the game, including an 18th-minute goal from Eisenberg being waved off because of an offside call. With three minutes left until halftime, Onstad came up with a big save on Eisenberg's one-on-one opportunity. Midfielder Nadia Al-Lami led the Bears with four shots and won numerous balls in the air and with aggressive challenges.

The Bears' defense held the Pac-10's leading scorer, Jodie Taylor, to only one shot. She entered the game with conference bests in points (30) and goals (14). The shutout today marked Cal's 10th of the season, four shy of matching the 1988 team's school record.

Cal hosts Oregon Sunday, Oct. 31 at noon in its 2004 regular season home finale.
