CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State's volleyball team got back on the winning track Friday night with a 30-21, 30-27, 30-18 sweep of Washington State University in Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers (9-11; 3-8 Pac-10) broke an eight-match slide after facing five consecutive opponents ranked in the top 15 nationally. The victory also marked the second straight year that Oregon State has swept the season series with Washington State (4-20; 1-10 Pac-10).

'Our team deserved a win so badly,' said OSU head coach Nancy Somera. 'They have been working so hard and playing so well - it's definitely nice to have the satisfaction at the end of the night and get the W.'

Beaver senior Allison Lawrence led all players with 14 kills, moving her into sole possession of 7th place in the Oregon State record book with 1,153 career kills. Freshman Nina Baltimore led all players with 20 digs and Kristin Murray contributed 10 digs to go along with nine kills.

As a team, Oregon State held a .252 attack percentage on the night compared to WSU's .085 clip. The Beavers got stronger as the match went on, finishing game three with a .406 hitting percentage while the Cougars hit .000.

'I really liked how we finished this match,' said Somera. 'We went in at the break and talked about playing with more energy and I really liked that our passing actually improved as the match went on.

'We tend to start hot and kind of cool off, so I think tonight was an improvement over the last couple of matches and we got steadier as the match went on.'

The Beavers hit the road next, visiting Arizona State University on Thursday. First serve is set for 6 p.m. PST.
