No. 23 Cal in 13th at the Las Vegas Showdown

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - No. 23 California dropped from 11th to 13th after the second round of the Las Vegas Founders' Collegiate Showdown despite improving by seven strokes on Tuesday at the Anthem Country Club. The Golden Bears shot a 307 today and have a two-day score of 621.

Host UNLV shot a 292 for the low team score in the second round and surged from two strokes back to a six-stroke lead at 588. Texas Tech is second at 594, followed by Stanford (599), Washington (600) and UC Irvine (603).

Junior Sofie Andersson continued to lead the Bears, sinking five birdies and posting a one-under 71 today. The 2004 honorable mention All-American is tied for sixth at 147 and is only two shots behind three athletes tied at 145. UNLV's Hwanhee Lee, Missouri's Maria Ohlsson and San Francisco's Jessica Potter share the top spot.

Cal junior Sophia Sheridan carded a 74 in the second round and climbed from a tie for 32nd to a tie for 24th at 152. Freshman Jen Sanders is tied for 68th at 161, sophomore Danielle Nash is tied for 71st at 162 and freshman Meredith Godwin is 83rd at 167.

The final round tees off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start Wednesday.
