The two-time defending Pac-10 Champion UCLA Bruins (10-2-2 overall, 5-1-0), can clinch their third consecutive Conference title with a win over WASHINGTON (11-4-2, 4-1-1) Friday night in Seattle... The Bruins, with two Pac-10 matches remaining, need to either beat Washington or notch at least four points this weekend to win the league crown outright... The Huskies remain in the hunt for their second Pac-10 men's soccer title with the UCLA match and a final league contest at Oregon State (Nov. 14) left to play... Multiple scenarios exist in which either UCLA or Washington could win or tie based upon the the outcome of Friday night's match, the Bruins' match against Oregon State on Sunday, and the Washington-OSU match next week... The UCLA-Washington match will be televised on a tape-delay basis by FSN, airing Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. PT and Nov. 8 at 3 a.m. PT. [Pac-10 tie-breaker: See page 2.]

UCLA is the lone Pac-10 team to conclude Conference competition this weekend... Five non-conference matches dot the slate over the final two weekends of regular-season play... To date, Pac-10 teams have posted a combined 31-9-7 record (.734) against non-conference competition this season... In its fifth season sponsoring men's soccer, the Pacific-10 Conference has landed four teams in the NCAA Championship over each of the last three seasons, while three teams made the field in 2000.

PAC-10 MEN'S SOCCER NOTES...

CALIFORNIA JR MF Nick Hatzke assisted on every goal Cal scored last week, with two in the 2-1 win over Oregon State and one in the 1-0 double-overtime upset of then-No. 5 Washington... Hatzke is tied for first on the team in scoring (5 goals) and first in assists (7 assists). OREGON STATE has been outscored 13-3 in its last six matches, yet still leads the Conference in goals (27)... The Beavers look to snap a six-game skid when they host Humboldt State and UCLA this weekend... OSU has two chances to notch a Pac-10 win, with matches against the Bruins and Huskies (Nov. 14) left on the slate... The Beavers finished second in the league last season (7-3-0 Pac-10) and earned a second straight NCAA Tournament berth. STANFORD SR MF/F Matt Janusz scored both goals in the Cardinal's to a 2-0 victory over Oregon State last week, on a header in the 28th minute and a penalty kick with less than 17 minutes left in regulation... Janusz doubled his season total in goals and Stanford snapped a three-game losing skid with the win. UCLA SO F Chad Barrett scored the game-winning goal in the second minute of play in the Bruins' 1-0 victory over UC Irvine... The goal was Barrett's third in as many games and his second game-winner in his last three games... He now has four goals on the year and leads the team with five assists... His 13 points rank second on the Bruin squad... UCLA is riding a five-match win streak and moved up to No. 4 in this week's Soccer America rankings. JR MF Jeff Hoover scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute in WASHINGTON's 1-0 victory over then-No. 17 Stanford... It was the first goal of the year for Hoover and third of his career... Washington's six-game winning streak and unbeaten Conference record came to a halt Oct. 31, as the Huskies lost a heartbreaker in double-overtime to California.

Pac-10 tie-breaker: If two teams were to tie for the 2004 Pac-10 title, the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship would go to go to the winner of the Conference match against the other team. If the teams tied in head-to-head Conference competition, the team having won the most matches in Conference play shall be declared the automatic qualifier. If a tie still exists, each team's record shall be compared against the team occupying the highest position in the regular-season standings, and then continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage. When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, each team's record against the collective ties teams as a group (prior to that group's own tie-breaking procedure) shall be used, rather than the performance against individual tied teams. If a tie still exists, the team having the highest goal differential in all Conference matches shall be declared the automatic qualifier. If a tie still exists, the team having the lowest number of goals again all Conference matches shall be declared the automatic qualifier. Another series of tie-breakers exist in the event of a point tie between more than two teams for the Conference championship.
