Barnes and Burdette Ready for 2004 ITA National Indoor Championships

Stanford women's tennis will be competing at two events this weekend, as junior Alice Barnes and senior Erin Burdette earned bids to the 2004 ITA National Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., while freshmen Whitney Deason and Lejla Hodzic travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the Thunderbirds Collegiate Tennis Invitational. Competition at the National Indoors will begin on Thursday at the Michigan Varsity Tennis Center. Deason and Hodzic will play Friday through Sunday at the Whiteman Tennis Center on the Arizona State campus.
Barnes earned one of the top-eight seeds at the (after No. 4, they are seeded 5-8 alphabetically) and will open play against Kentucky's Aibika Kalsarieva in the first round. Burdette earned an at-large bid to the tournament and will face Lindsey Nelson of Southern California in the first round.
As the 2004 Northwest Regional Doubles Champions, Barnes and Burdette also earned a spot as a pair. The duo will face off against Liz Bondi and Elizabeth Steel in the first round on Thursday.
