No. 23 Cal Ties for 12th at Las Vegas Showdown

BERKELEY, Calif. - No. 23 California tied for 12th with San Jose State with a score of 919 Wednesday at the Las Vegas Founders' Collegiate Showdown at the Anthem Country Club. The Golden Bears improved on their team score in each round, finishing at plus-11 298 in the final round.

Host UNLV won the tournament with a 54-hole score of 875, six shots ahead of No. 3 Washington (881). Stanford took third at 890, followed by UC Irvine (892) and Texas Tech (893).

UNLV's Hwanhee Lee claimed the individual crown by one shot at one-under-215 over Washington's Sung Ea Lee.

Junior Sofie Andersson paced Cal in a tie for 10th at 221, posting a team-best score of 74 today. Junior Sophia Sheridan carded a final round of 76, finishing in a tie for 35th at 228. Freshman Jen Sanders and sophomore Danielle Nash fired rounds of 74 and 75, respectively, for Cal's other counting scores today. Sanders tied for 61st (235), and Nash tied for 65th (237). Andersson, Sheridan and Sanders led Cal with two birdies each in the third round.

Cal returns to action Feb. 21-23 at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
