Nov. 4, 2004
Stanford, Calif. - Four Stanford women's soccer players were selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII team, announced today. Cardinal co-captain Nicole Barnhart earned First-Team honors, while forward Gina Farias-Eisner and defenders Jenny Farenbaugh and Hayley Hunt were voted to the Second Team. Earning a first-team selection, Barnhart will now be placed on the Academic All-America ballot, with results being announced on Nov. 23.
Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) has earned Second Team All-District honors in each of the past two years and is also a two-time honorable mention Academic All-Pac-10 selection. Barnhart is a fifth-year senior double-majoring in Studio Art and Psychology. She is a MAC Hermann Award Preseason candidate and has posted eight shutouts this season and 37 in her career. She currently ranks sixth in the nation with a 0.44 goals-against average this season after allowing only eight goals in the first 18 games of the season.
The All-District honor is the first for Farenbaugh (Reseda, Calif./Louisville), who earned honorable mention Academic All-Pac-10 honors as a sophomore last year. A Human Biology major, she tallied three assists this season and has helped the Cardinal shut out its opponents in 11 contests this fall.
Farias-Eisner (Calabasas, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) is also a first time All-District honoree. A sophomore who is pursuing a double major in psychology/pre-medecine and economics, Farias-Eisner has appeared in all 18 games this season and made 10 starts. She has scored four points this fall, with one goal and a pair of assists.
Like Farenbaugh and Farias-Eisner, the Academic All-District honor is the first for Hunt (San Marino, Calif./Polytechnic). Last season, she earned honorable mention Academic All-Pac-10 honors. A defender, Hunt has helped Stanford limit opponents to only eight goals this season, helping the Cardinal to the fourth-best team goals-against average in the nation (0.429).
