Knudson, Douglas Prove to be Special

Despite Washington's 23-13 loss to Arizona, the Husky special teams had their best game of the season. Head Coach Keith Gilbertson was very complimentary of his special teams despite the loss and giving up an early safety on a blocked punt.
'The defense and the special teams played well enough for us to win the game,' said Gilbertson. 'But we just cannot get anything going on offense.'
Kicker Evan Knudson accounted for six of Washington's points with 42-yard and 32-yard field goals, but he was not completely satisfied with his six points.
'I wish we could have drove it, and scored touchdowns,' said Knudson. 'But this is what happened and I am hoping that when I get the opportunity to make a kick, I can get in there and do it.'
For Knudson, it is the second-consecutive game in which he has gotten the start as the field goal kicker. He started the season as the number one kicker, but due to a bout of mononucleosis, he was slowed down and surpassed by Michael Braunstein. For Knusdon, it was a minor setback, but now he is getting back into the swing of things.
'I am feeling very confident right now,' said Knudson. 'Obviously my kicks are looking a lot better than they have before.'
Knudson's special teams' counterpart, punter Sean Douglas, also had a solid performance. He averaged 48 yards, on his six punts, and even ran for 28 yards and a first down on a fake punt in the fourth quarter.
'I was excited that we ran the fake, and excited that it worked,' said Douglas. 'It gave our team confidence and a little bit of a boost. We worked on it ever since we changed to this formation and we knew that at some point in time, we were going to have to keep people from coming after the ball.'
When Douglas did punt the ball, he had very positive results. His punted for a long of 55 yards and managed to pin Arizona down deep in their own territory several times.
'There was no wind, which is nice because it's nice to have calm weather when you're kicking,' said Douglas. 'I just got a hold of a couple of them today. I'm always going to be happy with myself when I play well, but its sucks to lose. I'm still happy with my play, just not with the outcome of the game.'
