Lamar Hurd and Marcel Jones lead scrimmages
Nov. 6, 2004
Corvallis, Ore. - The Oregon State University men's basketball team conducted a pair of 20-minute scrimmages Saturday morning at Gill Coliseum as preparations for the 2004-2005 season continue.
Game one featured the Black team posting a 39-35 victory. Junior guard Lamar Hurd scored 14 points to lead the victorious team with freshman swingman Marcel Jones adding 10. The White squad was led by senior guard Vic Remmers' 12 points.
The second game featured reorganized teams in which the Black won 36-35. Cuic and Hurd each scored nine for the winning squad, with Nash adding eight. DeWitz had 11 for the White and Jones scored 10.
'From an effort standpoint we played with a lot of passion and intensity,' head coach Jay John said. 'Things got a little sloppy at times in the second game, but that was a result of some players getting fatigued. Guys played a lot of minutes today, more than most will typically see in a regular game.'
Following the scrimmage John announced that he will likely start Hurd, Nash, Stephens and Jeffers in Monday's exhibition game vs. Western Oregon at Gill Coliseum. He has not decided on the fifth starter.
'The team is in pretty good basketball shape right now,' John added. 'We are going to have to be in good shape due to the early season voids we have on our roster. I like what I have seen and I think we have some good options.'
Oregon State opens regular season play Nov. 17 vs. Siena in the first round of the Black Coaches Association Invitational in Raleigh, N.C.
