Freshmen Face Off on Wednesday

Stanford, Calif. - Although rain cut the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational short last Sunday, the Cardinal will finish out the singles portion of the tournament on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center, as freshmen Whitney Deason and Lejla Hodzic play for the singles title.

Deason, who entered the draw as the No. 4 seed, posted a 4-0 record to advance to the finals. In the semifinals, Deason notched a 6-3, 6-0 victory over the No. 1 seed, Arizona State's Josslyn Burkett to advance to the championship.

Hodzic also compiled a perfect 4-0 record to earn a slot in the title match. She posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over No. 3 seed Maria Rosenberg of Kansas State in the quarterfinals before scoring a 6-3, 6-3 win over Arizona State's Sabrina Capannolo to earn her place in the finals.
