Tempe, Ariz. -- Arizona State University football student-athletes Jesse Ainsworth, Jason Burke and Grayling Love have been selected to the 2004 Academic All-District VIII Football Team, announced Thursday. This is the first time ASU has had more than two student-athletes named to the team.
Ainsworth (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), a sophomore kicker with an undeclared major, has 3.62 cumulative GPA. He is 13 of 19 on field goals and is a perfect 28 for 28 on extra points in 2004.
Burke (Glendale, Ariz.), a sophomore offensive lineman and long snapper, carries a 3.89 GPA in Economics. He has not had a poor snap in two seasons.
Love (Sacramento, Calif.) holds a 3.48 GPA in Finance and also plays every spot along the offensive line. He is a team leader and won the 2004 Pacific-10 Conference Sportsmanship Award.
Arizona State led the Pacific-10 Conference with the most student-athletes represented and is only one of three schools in the entire district with three members on the 24-member list. District VIII includes the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
