Washington State Men's Basketball Signs Two

Nov. 11, 2004

PULLMAN, Wash. - Caleb (KAY-lebb) Forrest and Antonio Chavers (CHAY-vers) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play men's basketball at Washington State University in 2005-06, Cougar Head Coach Dick Bennett announced, Thursday.

Forrest, currently a senior center/forward at Pagosa Springs (Colo.) High School, averaged 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks last season in leading the Pirates to Colorado Class 3A State quarterfinals. He was named Intermountain League Player of the Year.

'Caleb is 6-foot-8, 215-pounds and is a very aggressive rebounder,' Bennett said. 'He has tremendous potential as a player, but also some real growth potential physically. He is what I would call a natural rebounder because he goes after everything.'

Antonio Chavers, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard, is averaging nine points and 2.5 assists through two games this season at Tyler (Texas) Junior College. Chavers is a sophomore who redshirted in 2003-04.

'Antonio is an athlete somewhat in the mold of (current Cougar) Jeff Varem only as a true guard,' Bennett said. 'He's really a strong scorer and a great defender. He's not particularly tall, but he is very rugged and explosive.'
