Cal-UC Riverside Postgame Quotes

Nov. 12, 2004

Recap | Box Score

UC Riverside Head Coach John Masi

General comments:
'There were two very emotionally-charged teams out there the first 4-5 minutes. After that, we just couldn't get into a flow and Cal shut us down defensively.'

'We didn't get the ball inside enough. They kept pounding on us - defensively - inside and then they moved out on us. Instead of being patient, we caved.'

'We didn't expect them to shot from the outside like they did. They were (6-8) tonight from three-point range. (Vierneisel) was (4-4).'

California Head Coach Ben Braun

General comments:
'I told our team after the game I really was pleased with our effort. It was important for our guys to step up defensively. I think we did a good job of getting after it defensively and taking care of the ball. I liked the way we moved the ball, but defensively was what really turned the tide for us tonight.'

On the play of junior forward David Paris:
'I thought David did a good job getting up on the glass and getting some rebounds for us. He did a good job scoring some points for us around the basket.'

On the play of freshman forward Eric Vierneisel:
'Eric is going to take the shots you give him. He does a good job moving without the ball and he played with a lot of poise. He's a very poised freshman. I think all of our freshmen are going to be fine players for us.'
