Cal Bears Defeat Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif. - California women's swimming defeated the San Jose State Spartans, 162-108, Friday afternoon in a non-conference meet at the San Jose State Aquatics Center. With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 5-0 on the season.

Erin Reilly won both the 1000 freestyle (10:03.60) and the 200 butterfly (2:07.63) for Cal. The Bears showed off their breadth and depth with eight event winners: freshman Genevieve Patterson (100 breast, 1:03.20), junior Helen Silver (100 back, 57.09), sophomore Annie Babicz (57.61), junior Ashley Chandler (100 free, 1:52.85), freshman Emily Silver (50 free, 24.48), Sherry Tsai (400 IM, 4:23.03), Lauren Medina (100 free, 52.07).

Sophomore Lila Korpell provided a boost on the diving boards for the Bears, winning both the three-meter ( 266.175) and one-meter (258.45) events. Fellow Golden Bear Tara Capsuto finished runner-up in both dives.

Cal hosts the University of Pacific Saturday at noon at Spieker Aquatics Center.
