Cal-Saint Mary's Postgame Quotes
Nov. 13, 2004
Saint Mary's Head Coach Randy Bennett
On what Saint Mary's did well:
'We did a good job both ways, offensively and defensively. Cal is long and strong. They are hard to generate offense against. We did a good job defending them, and kept them from making any long runs.'
On this being his biggest win at Saint Mary's:
'As far as name recognition, this is by far the biggest game ever. Beating a Pac-10 team; people know Cal basketball is good.'
On preparing for Cal:
'I don't try to make a big deal out of playing Cal. I tell them you have a game and an opportunity, cherish it. You're privileged, bring your best. Our guys played really had tonight.'
California Head Coach Ben Braun
'I spent a little extra time talking to our team tonight after the game. Part of basketball is learning, and I think we learned tonight that you can't play basketball when you're frustrated. We can't miss layups against a team like St. Mary's.'
'I think it really came down to their (St. Mary's) experience and poise. They played patiently on defense and made us get into foul trouble. They made us play back from a big hole. In the second half, I think we were able to attack the basket a bit more, but we've got to finish. We can't play impatiently. That's something we're going to have to address.'
