Butler buried 8-of-12 field goals for 18 points and finished with a team-leading three steals, while Close hit 7-of-11 from the field for 17 points. Howell, making her first appearance of the season for OSU after missing the exhibition opener while resting a sprained ankle, led all players with 19 points and dished out four assists.
The Beavers jumped out to a 10-2 lead to open the contest, but Strakonice (a club team from the Czech Republic) answered with nine straight points to take its lone advantage of the contest (11-10) at the 13:34 mark.
A 15-0 run by Oregon State, capped off by a 3-pointer from junior Anita Rivera made the score 25-11 and Strakonice would get no closer than within six points with just under one-minute remaining in the game.
OSU held a 44-32 halftime lead, but was outscored by four points in the second frame.
Rivera finished with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds and Jessica Mellinger added a game-high six assists.
Blanka Petrovicka led Strakonice with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
The Beavers held a 45-33 rebounding edge and finished the game shooting 44-percent from the field compared to Strakonice's 39-percent clip.
Oregon State opens the 2004-05 regular season on Friday when the Beavers travel to Idaho State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PST.
The Beavers have won six straight season openers.
