Women's Golf Signs Martha Burkard To National Letter Of Intent

Nov. 17, 2004

CORVALLIS, Ore.- -

Oregon State University head women's golf coach Risë Lakowske announced on Friday that Martha Burkard of Alameda, Calif., has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Beavers during the 2005-06 season.

'I really like the school, especially the campus and the workout facilities,' said Burkard.

Burkard will come to OSU after graduating from Bishop O'Dowd High School, where she finished fourth in the Northern California Junior Championship in August and won the Northern California Qualifier for the Callaway Junior World Championship. Burkard also finished fourth in the CIF Northern California High School Regional, which qualifies her to compete in the CIF High School State Championship.

'Martha will add experience and depth to the Oregon State women's golf program,' said Lakowske.

'We are very excited she chose Oregon State over some other well respected west coast programs.'

'I met Risë and she is very nice and committed to progressing the golf program at Oregon State,' added Burkard.

'I also met the team and they seem like very tight group, and I'm looking forward to joining the team.'
