Nov. 17, 2004
SEATTLE-- The Washington women's swimming team gained a spot in the College Swimming Coaches' Association Top-25 poll released today. The Husky women moved up from 25th to 24th, receiving 16 votes. The men's team received five points to fall just two positions out of the top-25.
The Husky women are 1-3 against top 25 teams this season, defeating No. 17 Indiana at the SMU Classic and losing to No. 4 California, No. 9 SMU and No. 22 Hawaii. The Husky men are 0-1 against top-25 team, placing second at the Big West Shootout on Nov. 6 just behind No. 21 Hawaii. The No. 24 national ranking is the women's highest since the 2002-03 squad was ranked No. 23. The men's team, which was ranked 25th earlier this season, has been ranked among the nation's top-25 each of the last four seasons.
Washington's women's team has two meets on tap this week. The Huskies open against cross-state rival Washington State on Friday, November 19 and swim against Idaho on Saturday, November 20. UW has already faced and defeated Idaho earlier this year at the Big West Shootout. Washington's men are idle this week.
