Eight Soccer Student-Athletes Earn All-Pac-10 Academic Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. -- For the second consecutive year, eight Arizona State University soccer student-athletes earned Pac-10 All-Academic accolades, announced by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen. The eight selections ties last year's school record. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. The Sun Devils had two first-team selections, four second-team honorees and two more earning honorable mention status. Additionally, Stephanie Peel made her third appearance on the team, while four others (Elizabeth Bogus, Brittany Cooper, Stephanie Ebner and Manya Makoski) earned their second selections.

Senior defender/midfielder Holly Azevedo makes her first appearance on the Pac-10 first team after posting consecutive 4.00 GPA semesters in communications. As one of the team's top defenders, Azevedo ended her two-year career at Arizona State having started and played in 39 of 40 matches. Overall she tallied three goals and posted one assist for seven points. Azevedo was named the recipient of ASU's 2004 Female Student-Athlete of the Year as voted on by her peers within the athletic department.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kim Bingham also makes her first appearance as a first team choice. Bingham also holds a perfect 4.00 GPA in marketing. She finished the year playing in 17 games with over 1,555 minutes of action. Bingham recorded a 1.33 goals-against average, making 69 saves with four shutouts.

Junior Elizabeth Bogus makes her second appearance on the Pac-10 second team. Bogus holds a 3.73 GPA in interdisciplinary studies. Bogus played in all 19 games, finished tied for third on the team with 13 points. She also led the team with a career-high five assists, tallied four goals and posted two game winners.

Sophomore midfielder Katie Mahoney earned her first appearance on the academic second team after posting a 3.91 GPA in secondary education (English). Mahoney played in 18 matches this year with two goals, including one game-winner and two assists.

Junior Manya Makoski makes her second appearance on the academic team, her first on the second team after garnering honorable mention accolades as a sophomore. Makoski, a member of ASU's Barrett's Honors College, holds a 3.74 GPA in journalism/mass communications. She started in all 19 games this year with a team-high three game-winning goals. Makoski also finished tied for the team-high in goals (6) and was second in points (14).

Senior defender Stephanie Peel makes her third appearance on the second team after earning a 3.72 GPA in secondary education (English). Incredibly, Peel did not miss a start in 80 career games. In her four-years as a Sun Devil, Peel recorded five goals, including one game-winner and posted six assists for 16 points.

Junior Brittany Cooper earned honorable mention accolades for the second year, carrying a 3.46 GPA in journalism/mass communications. Cooper also played and started in all 19 games, tying for the team-high in goals (6). She finished tied for third in points (13) and had one game-winning goal.

Junior Stephanie Ebner was also an honorable mention selection for the second year after pulling in a 3.23 GPA in interdisciplinary studies. Ebner played and started in all 19 matches as a defender and midfielder, tying a career-high with three assists.
