Candace Lee Named To The Pac-10 All-Academic First Team

SEATTLE--Junior libero Candace Lee has been selected to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team, it was announced today by Commissioner Tom Hanson. Senior Sanja Tomasevic and sophomore Courtney Thompson were named to the second team and Kaitlin Leck and Danka Danicic were honorable mention picks.
Lee boasts a team-best 3.78 grade-point average in English with a minor in Italian. She leads the conference with 5.63 digs per game and has tallied double-digit digs 22 times this season. Lee set the Washington career record for digs on Nov. 11 with her 1,238th dig and her career total now stands at 1,309 to rank 17th on the Pac-10 all-time single-season list. She currently has 467 digs this season, tying her own single-season record set in 2003. Lee is a member of the University of Washington Dean's List and was an Academic All-District VIII selection earlier this month.
Tomasevic has a 3.34 grade-point average in Communications. Before suffering a broken hand on Oct. 14, Tomasevic led the Huskies with 4.86 kills per game, 17 aces and 5.63 points per game and ranked third in the Pac-10 in all three categories. Tomasevic has five double-doubles in 13 matches played and has tallied double-figure kills 10 times. Tomasevic, a three-time team captain, became just the 11th Husky ever to record 1,000 career kills. She currently ranks seventh on the UW all-time list with 1,178 kills and set UW season records last year with 58 aces and 1,411 attacks.
Thompson has achieved a 3.63 grade point average in Business. She was one of just 50 incoming freshmen to be accepted into the 1,000-member business school at UW. Thompson has started all 24 matches for the Huskies this season and averages 14.82 assists per game and 2.24 digs per game. Her 14.82 apg lead the Huskies and Pac-10, rank second nationally and are a UW single-season record. Thompson has tallied 70-plus assists twice and 60-plus assists five times. Last season, Thompson set the UW single-season record with 1,590 assists. This two-time team captain is just the seventh Husky to notch 2,000 career assists and ranks third all-time with 2,820 dishes. Thompson is a University of Washington Dean's List member, was an Academic All-District pick earlier this month and was a Pac-10 All-Freshman team selection and All-Pac-10 honorable mention pick last season.
Other Huskies recognized for their academic successes were honorable mention selections Danka Danicic (3.42, English) and Kaitlin Leck (3.06, Art). Both Danicic and Leck are members of the University of Washington Dean's List.
