Stanford, Calif. - The Cardinal captured their first dual of the season in dominating fashion, riding four straight falls to victory. Stanford captured a 35-14 win over San Francisco State at Ford Center in the home opener for this year's team. Matt Gentry (157), Scott Loescher (165), Imad Kharbush (174), and Mark Egesdal (184) all recorded falls for the Cardinal.

After SFSU pulled ahead with major decisions in the first two matches, Matt Gentry (157) opened the floodgates with a pin against Jaime Alvarez. Gentry displayed his typical patience and wrestling smarts, taking advantage of any mistakes Alvarez made. After a take down by Alvarez, Gentry regrouped and pinned his opponent at 4:43. The other Cardinal wrestlers followed suit to open a wide lead.

Freshman Loescher wrestled strongly, nearly pinning Justin Switzler in the opening minute, before securing the pin at 2:22. Kharbush and Egesdal likewise recorded falls in the opening period to give Stanford the commanding 24-8 lead after the first six matches.

Also recording wins during the meet were Ian Bork (197), Shawn Ritzenthaler (285), and Rafael Chavez (133). Bork outmuscled Chris Bostick and took the 8-2 decision, only allowing two escapes. Ritzenthaler put on a nearfall display, repeatedly turning Jon Vargas for a 15-2 major decision. Chavez, a true freshman, aggressively attacked SFSU's Mikhail Higa and recorded six take downs in the 15-4 major decision.

The Cardinal now enjoys a long break before their next action at the Tournament of Champions, held in Reno, NV, on December 19th.

Notes: With the match already decided, Nathan Peterson did not wrestle in order to nurse a sore knee ... The next home dual is not until February 4th, when the Cardinal will host Fresno State
