Kennedy, Clement Earn Preseason All-America Recognition

LOS ANGELES -- Junior catcher Jeff Clement and sophomore pitcher Ian Kennedy were named to the 2005 Preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association All-America Team. Kennedy earned second team honors while Clement was named to the third team.

Kennedy as the Trojans' No. 1 starter as a freshman last year went 7-2 with a 2.91 ERA with one save. In 16 games, Kennedy threw 92 2/3 innings, allowing 86 hits with 31 walks and 120 strikeouts.

Clement batted .293 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI last year as a sophomore after hitting 21 home runs in his 2003 freshman season.

Both players played this summer for the U.S. National Team.

USC opens the 2005 season on Tuesday (Feb. 6) against San Diego State in a 6 p.m. start at Dedeaux Field.
