Volleyball To Host NCAA First And Second Rounds

LOS ANGELES -- The sixth-ranked USC women's volleyball team will host the first and second rounds of the 2004 NCAA Tournament this Thursday and Friday, Dec. 2-3, at the Lyon Center. The defending national champion Women of Troy will face College of Charleston (26-5) in the opening round on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The winner of both matches will advance to the NCAA Regionals to be held in Louisville, Ky., with the regional champion advancing to the NCAA Final Four in Long Beach.
The Trojans, who finished the season with a 19-5 overall record and 14-4 mark in the Pac-10, earned the national No. 8 seed. Nebraska, Penn State, Hawai'i and Minnesota were selected as the No. 1 seeds in each region.
The winner of the USC-College of Charleston match will face the winner of Thursday's 5 p.m. Cal State Northridge (17-10) versus Kansas State (19-10) match in second round action on Friday at 7 p.m.
USC is making its 22nd all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament on the heels of capturing last season's NCAA Championship in Dallas, Texas. The Women of Troy have won six national championships (1976, 1977, 1980, 1981, 2002, 2003) in program history.
