Stanford Ends Buddy Teevens' Tenure as Head Football Coach
Nov. 29, 2004
Director of Athletics Ted Leland today announced that the University will end the employment of head football coach Buddy Teevens, effective immediately. Teevens, who recently completed his third season as head football coach, signed a five-year contract in January, 2002.
During his three seasons at Stanford, Teevens compiled an overall record of 10-23, including 2-9 in 2002, 4-7 in 2003 and 4-7 in 2004.
'Let me first thank Buddy for his contribution to the Stanford University football program and the Stanford community,' said Leland. 'Buddy is man of high integrity and character and I know I speak for everyone at Stanford when I wish him and his family all the best in the future.'
'At this time, we are ending Buddy's employment as head football coach, ' said Leland. 'It was an extremely difficult decision, but I simply felt that the program was in need of new direction and leadership.'
Leland said a nationwide search for a successor will begin immediately.
