• ARIZONA is looking to cure its shooting woes. In three games last week, the Cats never shot better than 39.7 percent, while shooting a combined 70-of-207 (.338)... Freshman F Jawann McClellan was a bright spot for the Cats in the finals of the Preseason N.I.T. in Madison Square Garden. Against Michigan, McClellan scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds. He followed that up with another 11 points and eight rebounds against Wake Forest. He shot 7-of-12 (.583) in the two contests.

• ARIZONA STATE junior F Ike Diogu has scored in double digits in every game during his ASU career - a national-best string of 63 consecutive games. The NCAA record is 115 set by La Salle's Lionel Simmons from 1987-90... Diogu tossed in 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win over Vanderbilt. It was his seventh 30-point game. Diogu 'only' has 16 double-doubles for his career. In 11 other games, he has posted nine rebounds.

• CALIFORNIA sophomore G Ayinde Ubaka fractured the fifth metatarsal on his left foot in last Tuesday's game against Southern. He is expected to miss eight weeks of action... Junior G Richard Midgely scored a career-high 26 points in Cal's win over Southern. He was 5-of-5 from three-point range in the first half, and connected on his first six three-point attempts before missing... Over the last two games, freshman F DeVon Hardin is shooting 8-of-12 (.667) from the field, averaging 10.0 points and 9.5 rebounds.

• In three games, OREGON has yet to allow an opponent to shoot 40 percent from the field... Ducks are 3-0 for the sixth consecutive season... Ducks had five players score in double figure in wins over New Mexico and Marshall (led by freshman Bryce Taylor's 18 points)... After missing on four attempts from three-point range in the season opener, sophomore G Aaron Brooks found his shooting touch beyond the arc last week as he nailed 8-of-15 (.533) three-point attempts. In wins over New Mexico and Marshall, Brooks averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds.

• OREGON STATE freshman F Sasa Cuic is averaging 18.5 points - the most by a true freshman at this stage at OSU since Steve Johnson in 1977. He has also made 26 consecutive free throws, while junior guard Chris Stephens has made 20 straight, dating back to last year... As a team, the Beavers are shooting 74-of-100 from the charity stripe.

• STANFORD's junior F Dan Grunfeld scored a career-high 26 points against Santa Clara, the second time he has re-set his career mark for points this season. Grunfeld is averaging 19.4 points and 6.8 rebounds in five games - through his first two seasons on The Farm, Grunfeld averaged 3.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per contest... Senior C Rob Little leads the Cardinal in field goal percentage, having made 60 percent of his attempts from the floor. Against Louisville the senior downed nine of his 11 attempts for a career-high 19 points.

• Freshman G Jordan Farmar's impact has been immediate at UCLA. Through three games he ranks in the top ten among Pac-10 players in assists, free throw percentage, 3-point percentage and 3-pointers made, and is 17th in the league in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per contest... Fellow freshman and backcourt counterpart Arron Afflalo is not far behind, putting in 10.7 points per game... The Bruins have a chance to run their record to 4-0 against Long Beach State on Tuesday... The last time UCLA started the season with four straight wins, 1994-95, it went on to a 31-1 record and won the NCAA Championship.

• USC Senior F Jeff McMillan's 12 point, 12 rebound performance against UC Irvine in the season opener was his 11th career double-double... Among active Pac-10 players, McMillan trails only Arizona's Channing Frye and ASU's Ike Diogu in career double-up performances... Fourth on the list is fellow Trojan F Gregg Guenther, who has seven career double-doubles.

• WASHINGTON's successful trip to Alaska was muted by the news that junior G/F Brandon Roy will be out for the next four to six weeks with a meniscus tear he suffered in the first half of the Huskies 96-91 win over Oklahoma... Junior G Nate Robinson's MVP selection at the Great Alaska Shootout was well deserved, averaging 21.3 points, 5.0 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals, while sinking 59 percent of his shots... Through four games he is among the top five in the Pac-10 in scoring (21.5 ppg - 2nd), assists (4.75 apg - 4th), steals (1.75 spg - 4th), free throw percentage (.875 - 5th), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.38 - 3rd) and minutes played (36.0 mpg - 2nd)... He is also among the Conference's top ten in three other categories... The Huskies are 4-0 for the first time since 1999.

• WASHINGTON STATE coach Dick Bennett's trademark defense is back in force - here are Washington State's opponents' point totals for the first three contests: 42, 42 and 62... Thus the Cougars' find themselves right where they finished the 2003-04 season: atop the Pac-10 in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 48.7 points-per-game... That total is a full 10.6 points-per-game better than the second-ranked scoring defense, UCLA, which is yielding an average of 59.3 points in each contest... Senior G Thomas Kelati leads the Cougars offensively, averaging 12.0 points and three 3-pointers per game.
