Tatupu, Patterson, Cody, Bush Named SI.com All-Americans
Dec. 8, 2004
Cody and Tatupu are the 134th and 135th Trojans to earn All-American first team honors, respectively, and the fifth and sixth Trojans named to All-American first teams this year, joining Patterson (Sporting News, SI.com), Bush (Football Coaches, Sporting News, SI.com), quarterback Matt Leinart (Football Coaches Association) and linebacker Matt Grootegoed (Football Coaches Association).
The class of six All-Americans is the most ever in one season at USC, surpassing the previous high of five achieved in 1972, 1973, 1974, 1988 and 2003.
Leinart made the SI.com second team while Bush, who earned his SI.com first team honor at the All-Purpose spot, also earned honorable mention honors as a punt returner. Punter Tom Malone, a 2003 All-American, earned 2004 honorable mention honors as well.
In addition to the SI.com, Sporting News and Football Coaches Association All-American teams, the NCAA also recognizes the AP, Football Writers Association, Walter Camp Foundation and Football News when considering whether a player is a unanimous or consensus choice. The remaining four teams are expected to be announced in the coming days.
