Gymnasts Set For Season Debut This Week

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State Head Gymnastics Coach Tanya Chaplin is ready to unveil the 2005 Beaver gymnastics squad with a sneak preview Friday night with the annual Black and Orange Exhibition. The exhibition begins at 7 p.m. at Gill Coliseum and is free of charge and also features an autograph session with following the competition.
The Beavers will break down into two groups with four to six athletes from each squad performing in each event. The groups will follow the Olympic order beginning on the vault and uneven bars.
Leading the Beavers are senior captains Christa Piazza and Thérèse Videan, who lead a team of 18 gymnasts including six rookies consisting of six true freshmen along with three redshirts. Among the returnees are 2004 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Chelsea Plourde and Chrissy Lamun, a 2003 Pac-10 co-champion on the floor. Also making a return to the hard floor for the Beavers is seniors Lindsay Nelson and Daylee Ingalls both of which had their 2004 seasons wiped out by knee injuries.
Oregon State opens the season January at Cal State Fullerton. The first of five home meets comes against UCLA, Friday January 14 at Gill Coliseum.
