Dec. 15, 2004
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA swimmer Kim Vandenberg has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Women's Swimmer of the Month for November, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Vandenberg, a junior from Moraga, Calif., won the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events at the Boilermaker Invitational on Nov. 5-6. Her times in both events (54.10 in the 100 and 1:55.69 in the 200) were, at the time, the second-fastest times recorded in the country for the 2004 season. Vandenberg followed that up by winning the 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard butterfly in UCLA's dual meets with Arizona State and Arizona. She also swam as the third leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team against Arizona State.
The 2002-2003 Pac-10 Women's Swimming Newcomer of the Year, Vandenberg placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2004 U.S. Olympic trials.
This is the first monthly honor for Vandenberg, and UCLA's first Swimmer of the Month all-time.
