Oregon Tops Bethune-Cookman, 73-65

Eugene, Ore. (AP) - Freshmen Bryce Taylor and Malik Hairston combined for 35 points to lead Oregon to a 73-65 win over Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday.
Taylor, who made 7-of-10 shots, scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half, while Hairston made 8 of 11 and appeared to be on his way to a triple-double by halftime when he had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. He added only one rebound to those totals in the second half.
Ian Crosswhite added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Oregon (5-1), while Aaron Brooks had 11 points and seven assists.
Oregon, coming off a 17-point loss to No. 1 Illinois, built its lead to as many as 14 points, 50-36, after an 11-0 run early in the second half. Taylor scored eight points during that stretch, and 11 of the Ducks' first 14 points of the second half.
The Wildcats (3-4) rallied to cut Oregon's lead to 65-63 with just under five minutes to play. But the Ducks held the Wildcats to one basket the rest of the way.
Diondre Larmond scored 17 to lead Bethune-Cookman. Antonio Webb added 16 points and Michael Williams II had 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Ducks were expected to win a by a lot against a team playing its second game in as many nights, and the game had the look of a blowout in the early going. The Ducks jumped out to a 10-0 lead 2:08 into the game before the Wildcats went on a 16-4 run to go up 16-14.
Oregon then turned to Hairston, who scored six points and assisted on three other three baskets as they retook the lead, 31-27, with 8:17 to play in the half.
A 3-pointer by Larmond at the 7:44 mark made the score 31-30, but those were the last points of the first half for Bethune-Cookman, which missed its next seven shots as the Ducks went into the break on 7-0 run to lead 38-30.
