Women's Tennis Selected To Play In USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships

MADISON, Wisc. -- Washington's women's tennis is one of 16 squads selected to participate in the 2005 USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championship, hosted by the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Feb. 3-6. It will be the second straight year the Huskies have taken part in this national tournament that features the top teams in the country.
Joining Washington in the field are Stanford, Clemson, Duke, Georgia, Harvard, Kentucky, Miami, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northwestern, Southern California, Tulane, UCLA, Vanderbilt and host Wisconsin. The tournament is considered a preview of the NCAA Championship held in May.
Stanford is the defending NCAA champion, and also won last year's National Team Indoors. The Huskies advanced as far as the semifinals last year at the National Team Indoors, defeating No. 23 Tennessee (6-1) and No. 6 Vanderbilt (4-3), before falling to the eventual champion Cardinal in the semis (0-5).
Wisconsin and the Nielsen Tennis Stadium have been the tournament's only host since its inception in 1988.
First-round action begins Thursday, Feb. 3, with second-round play and the first consolation bracket to follow on Friday, Feb. 4. Tournament semifinals, along with the championship quarterfinals and second-bracket consolation matches, will be played Saturday, Feb. 5.
The championship match is slated for Sunday, Feb. 6. Match times and draws have yet to be determined.
