UW to Host 2006 NCAA Women's Golf Regional
Dec. 21, 2004
Seattle - The NCAA has named Washington the host institution for the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional Championship. The tournament will take place May 11-13 at Washington National Golf Club. It will mark the third NCAA championship event Washington National has hosted.
Washington National was the host site for the 2002 Division I Women's Championship and the 2003 Division I Men's West Regional Championship.
'The bid process for these tournaments is usually very competitive and I think this says a lot about the job Washington National and its staff have done in the two previous NCAA events they have hosted,' says Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur. 'It will be a tremendous advantage for our team to be able to compete for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships by playing on our home course.'
The Washington women's golf team is currently ranked fourth in the nation. Last season the Huskies placed sixth as the NCAA Championships held at Auburn. This year's NCAA Championship will be held at Sunriver in Bend, Ore.
