USC Teams With LTRC And Rafu Shimpo
Dec. 22, 2004
LOS ANGELES - The USC Women's Basketball program announces a promotional partnership with the Little Tokyo Recreation Center and the Rafu Shimpo, the nation's largest Japanese bilingual daily based in Los Angeles.
This unique partnership will sponsor a one-day event, tabbed 'The Downtown Showdown presented by the Rafu Shimpo,' in order to raise funds for the LTRC. It will take place in conjunction with the USC-Oregon women's basketball game on Sunday, Jan. 2.
The game will tip-off at 2 p.m. at the L.A. Sports Arena. Game-day events will include postgame autograph sessions and other promotional activities.
Tickets for the Downtown Showdown presented by the Rafu Shimpo are specially priced at $5 each (normal ticket price is $7). For each $5 ticket sold through this promotion, USC will donate 40 percent of the proceeds ($2 per ticket) to the Little Tokyo Recreation Center building fund, which is overseen by the Little Tokyo Recreation Center Community Development Corporation.
The Downtown Showdown will feature two Japanese-American point guards -- USC's Jamie Hagiya, who prepped at South Torrance High, and Oregon's Corrie Musizawa. Hagiya, an alum of local Japanese-American youth leagues, is a starter for the Women of Troy and is currently averaging a team-best 3.3 assists per game, in addition to 5.1 points per outing. Misuzawa, who was born in Torrance and prepped at Acalanes High in LaFayette, Calif., led the Pac-10 in assists last season and is also a current starter for the Ducks.
'We are proud to team up with the Little Tokyo Recreation Center and the Rafu Shimpo to present this exciting basketball game,' said USC senior associate athletics director Lisa Love. 'Creating the Downtown Showdown provides a unique platform for our basketball program and for the LTRC. We are delighted to cultivate this connection between a very supportive community, our Women of Troy basketball program and our University.'
Tickets for the Downtown Showdown presented by the Rafu Shimpo may ONLY be purchased by calling (213) 821-0782. The deadline for ordering tickets is Friday, Dec. 31.
