Oregon Tops Winthrop 71-56

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) Aaron Brooks scored a career-high 25 points to lead Oregonto a 71-56 win against Winthrop on Wednesday.
Brooks scored 15 of his points in the first half as the Ducks took a 36-27lead. The sophomore point guard was 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-8 fromthe 3-point line, tying his career-high for 3-pointers.
Malik Hairston also scored 17 for the Ducks (7-1), who shot nearly 45percent and committed a season-low 10 turnovers in their 30th straightnonconference victory at McArthur Court.
Phillip Williams and Torrell Martin each scored 12 points to pace the Eagles(7-4) of Rock Hill, S.C.
The Ducks were cruising in the second half, leading 54-41 with 8:46 to playfollowing a layup by Brooks. Winthrop came back to hit 3-pointers on three ofits next four possessions to close the gap to 57-52 with just under six minutesleft.
But Oregon finished on a 14-4 run, with eight points coming from the foulline, while the Eagles didn't score after a layup by Martin at the 3:28 mark.
The Ducks got to an early 10-point lead after Brooks sparked a 14-4 run witha pair 3-pointers, layup and jump shot to give them an 18-8 lead 5:39 into thegame.
