Bruin Soccer Players Called Up To National Team Camps

UCLA soccer players Chad Barrett, Benny Feilhaber, Patrick Ianni, Marvell Wynne and Greg Folk have been called up for training camps with their respective national team age groups. Barrett, Feilhaber, Ianni and Wynne were invited to the final training camp before competing in the CONCACAF Under-20 Qualifying Tournament on Jan. 12-16. Folk will join the Under-18s in training camp Jan. 5 before the team heads to Guadalajara, Mexico to compete in the Copa Chivas Youth Tournament.

The four Bruins in the U-20 camp are amongst 22 players trying to make the final 18-man roster for U.S. head coach Sigi Schmid. The U.S. will open the CONCACAF Tournament against Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. at The Home Depot Center before facing Panama on Friday, Jan. 14 at 8 p.m. The U-20s wrap up the tournament against Costa Rica on Sunday, Jan. 16 at 2:30 p.m. The U.S. will be attempting to qualify for the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, which takes place in Holland from June 10-July 2.

Folk and the 19-man U-18 squad will also be in training camp at The Home Depot Center. The Copa Chivas Youth Tournament will include 16 teams, the majority being Mexican club youth teams. The U.S. will play three games in three days, kicking off the tournament against Atlas on Jan. 9 before meeting Chivas La Piedad a day later and finishing against Monterrey on Jan. 11. The top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals, which will take place on Jan. 13. The semifinals will take place on Jan. 14 and the final and third place match on Jan. 15.
