Taylor Garners Four More Awards
Jan. 11, 2005
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State freshman phenom Jodie Taylor has been named to the 2004 First Team, Freshman All-America by Soccer Buzz, a website that focuses on women's collegiate soccer. Taylor also was selected as the Soccer Buzz's West Region Freshman of the Year and earned second team All-Region.
In addition to the Soccer Buzz awards, Taylor also was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America third team All-West Region.
'We're excited for Jodie to receive further recognition for her outstanding season,' said head coach Steve Fennah. 'Its exciting to see that she is already working hard to improve her game for next season.'
Taylor was also a finalist for the Soccer Buzz national Freshman of the Year but was edged out by Lara Dickenmann of Ohio State. The Freshman of the Year honoree was determined by a vote which was open to all Division I women's soccer coaching staffs and the Soccer Buzz staff.
Taylor, a native of Wallasey, Merseyside, England, has already been named Pacific-10 Freshman of the Year and first-team all-conference after being the Pac-10's regular-season leader in both goals (15) and points (32). She scored a goal in 12 of OSU's 20 games this season; had two-goal games against North Carolina-Greensboro, Virginia Commonwealth and Washington; and also had assists against Richmond and Oregon.
Taylor scored on nearly one-quarter of her 64 shots this season, and over half of her shots were on goal (33). She tallied six game-winning goals as the Beavers went 10-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the Pac-10; it was the Beavers' first winning season since 2001 and their best Pac-10 record since the conference expanded to a full 10 teams in 1997.
'Anytime a player gets this number of individual awards it speaks volumes for the support they receive from their teammates,' said Fennah.
