Pavin Named Assistant Captain for U.S. Ryder Cup Team
Jan. 14, 2005
U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman named Corey Pavin and Loren Roberts as assistant captains on his staff for the 2006 Ryder Cup at the K Club in Ireland.
Pavin, a former UCLA All-American and college player of the year, has won 14 tournaments on the PGA Tour, including the 1995 U.S. Open. He owns an 8-5-0 record in three Ryder Cup competitions, and played on the victorious 1995 team at Oak Hill.
'Corey's record as a competitor is respected throughout golf,' said Lehman. 'He's one of the best pressure putters I've seen, and his tenacity while a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team was inspirational.'
Roberts, an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, also played on the 1995 Ryder Cup team and boasts a record of 3-1-0.
'They have proven to be extremely tough competitors and have risen to the occasion numerous times in their careers,' said Lehman.
The United States has lost four of the last five Ryder Cup competitions, including the 2003 event, a crushing 18.5-9.5 loss in September.
