Trojans Sweep Cal State Bakersfield

USC's No. 1 ranked men's team and No. 17 women's team, both of which featured swimmers in non-specialty events to improve their versatility, posted wins over host Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday (Jan. 15).

A Bakersfield record crowd of 322 fans were treated to an entertaining day as USC's men's team beat the 'Runners 160-128 while the Trojan women won 158-108.

Trojan Olympian and Bakersfield native Larsen Jensen, the American record holder in the 1500m freestyle, won the only individual event he swam in, touching first in the 500y free in 4:28.99.

USC double-winners included junior Ous Mellouli (50y free and 200y breast), junior Mike Kauffman (1000y free, 200y fly) and sophomore Kristina Sieper (100y and 200y breast).

Other winners included Kalyn Keller (200y back), freshman Brittany Allen (200y free), junior Stacy Vazhenin (1000y free), senior Joanna Fargus (200y back), freshman Brandon Lovell (100y breast), senior Marisa Kozak (100y fly), junior Tyler Panos (200y back), freshman Emily Goetsch (500y free), senior Richard Gosper (100y fly) and freshman Renee Viveros (200y IM).

USC's women continue their Pac-10 schedule with the Bay Area trip in two weeks and the men head north in three weeks for the Cal, Stanford swing.
