Women's Tennis Team Competing in Seattle, Las Vegas

The UCLA women's tennis team is competing at two tournaments this weekend, splitting players between the 2005 Pac-10 Indoor Championships in Seattle and the Freeman Memorial Championships in Las Vegas.

Sophomore Amber Ray, competing in the Flight-III Draw at the Pac-10s, was the only Bruin to win a first-round singles match in Seattle on Friday, as she defeated Washington's Keri Sugiyama, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. All other UCLA players fell in the first round.

In doubles, Laura Gordon and Elizabeth Lumpkin are in the quarterfinals of the Flight-I Draw after defeating Washington's Dinka Hadzic/Dea Sumantri, 8-5.


At the 2005 Freeman Memorial Championships in Las Vegas, UCLA's Riza Zalameda and Daniela Bercek both won second-round singles matches on Friday after receiving a bye in the first round. Zalameda defeated South Carolina's Laura Ganzer, 6-3, 6-4. Bercek was a 7-6, 6-2 winner over ASU's Sabrina Capannolo.

In doubles play, Bercek and Zalameda posted an 8-4 decision over South Carolina's Fallon Kroon/Miranda Gutierrez.
