Bercek/Zalameda Advance in Doubles in Las Vegas

UCLA's Daniela Bercek and Riza Zalameda were both upset in singles action Saturday at the 2005 Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev.

Zalameda, the tournament's No. 2 seed, was upset by eighth-seeded Whitney Deason of Stanford, 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. Bercek, seeded No. 4, also lost in Saturday's quarterfinals, falling to sixth-seeded Theresa Logar of Stanford, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles play, Bercek and Zalameda advanced to the semifinals by defeating Cal's Susanna Babos/Marion Ravelojaona, 8-3.

UCLA's Amber Ray fell in the quarterfinals of singles in the Flight-III Draw, losing to Monica Hoz de Vila of Oregon, 6-1, 6-1. In Flight-I Consolation singles action, Alex McGoodwin won a pair of matches Saturday, defeating Arizona's Maja Mlakar, 6-3, 6-4 and teammate Elizabeth Lumpkin, 6-2, 6-4. Anya Loncaric won two matches in the Flight-III Consolation Draw, knocking off Cal's Hilary Englert, 6-1, 6-4 and Washington's Cheryl Naruse, 6-3, 6-1.
