Bercek/Zalameda Win Title in Las Vegas

UCLA's Daniela Bercek and Riza Zalameda captured the doubles title at the 2005 Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. on Sunday.

Bercek and Zalameda, ranked fifth nationally, posted two wins on the final day of compeition. They started the day by defeating Georgia's Caroline Basu/Shadisha Robinson, 9-7 in the semifinals. They captured the title by posting an 8-4 decision over Stanford's Whitney Deason/Lejla Hodzic. Deason and Hodzic are ranked 41st nationally.

At the Pac-10 Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., a pair of Bruin players were in consolation singles finals Sunday. Nicole Leimbach of USC defeated Alex McGoodwin, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the Flight-I Consolation Final. In the Flight-III back draw, Anya Loncaric defeated Stanford's Kara Guzman, 6-4, 6-4.

UCLA opens up the 2005 dual match season this Wednesday, hosting Loyola Marymount at the LATC beginning at 1:30 p.m.
